The repurposing of the R/V TE STREEP

The vessel was sold after decommissioning from government hydrographic survey services to a private company that had the intention to resell her. We found her through an online advertising, inspected her and were impressed by her lines and the complex inventory as well as quality of machinery. After discussing the potential with our client, she was purchased to convert her into an expeditionary cruiser that could be used to explore the Red Sea coastline in Saudi Arabia above and below the waterline.

Conversion

Being a government service vessel had the advantage to find a well-maintained vessel but the disadvantage of being unclassed. We assessed the project and found that with few surveys and mostly general refit work we could achieve to flag her under the San Marino flag and subsequently comply with their large yacht code for vessels above 500GT. We also found that acceptance into class (AIC) for commercial operation is also achievable without excessive investment. After the purchase decision was made by our client, we went to work to upgrade the vessel for the new purpose.
